From April 17 to April 18, the final of the 11th National Undergraduate Mathematics Competition was held in Wuhan University. Zhao Zhipeng from the College of Mathematics Science of our university who was enrolled in 2018 and Song Zenan from the Institute of Railway and Urban Rail Transit who was enrolled in 2018 clawed its way to the finals, winning the first prize of the senior mathematics group and the second prize of the non mathematics group. Zhao Zhipeng's final result ranked first in the senior math group in China, which refreshed the best result of Tongji University in recent years and won honors for the school.

The competition is divided into two stages: preliminary and final. 170787 people from 849 colleges and universities across the country participated in the preliminary, and 605 players from 204 colleges and universities entered the final for fierce competition. The final was divided into three groups: senior mathematics group, junior mathematics group and non mathematics group. 120 first prizes, 187 second prizes and 241 third prizes were finally won. The National Undergraduate Mathematics Contest began in 2009 and has become one of the most influential high-level discipline competitions for undergraduates in China. It aims to promote the quality of talent training, promote the construction of mathematics courses in colleges and universities, and explore innovative talents in mathematics.

The organization, registration and competition training for our students to participate in this event are undertaken by the College of Mathematical Sciences. From May to June each year, the College of Mathematical Science sets up a competition training expert group to set up specialized training courses such as "Modern Mathematics Selected Lectures" and "Advanced Mathematics Selected Lectures" for warm-up and pre competition guidance. In the final of the 9th National Undergraduate Mathematics Competition in 2018, our students Guo Jing and Zhang Zhiyang won the first and second prizes of the non mathematics group in national competition respectively. Guo Jing ranked first in the non mathematics group with 96 points, and Liu Yude won the second prize of the mathematics (senior group). This year, Zhao Zhipeng and Song Zenan won prizes again, which is a fruitful result of our school's continuous efforts to strengthen teachers and improve the level of competition training.

In recent years, our school has carried out a major enrollment reform. With the goal of cultivating comprehensive talents, the College of Mathematics Science has guaranteed the quality of courses in an all-round way, carried out in-depth teaching reform, set up honorary courses and top-notch courses, and organized a professional team of teachers for competition guidance. The university will support the College of Mathematics Science to continue to adhere to the combination of competition and teaching, and strengthen the organization and guidance of various innovation and expansion activities, including mathematical professional competitions.
