Abstract：The classical Hurwitz class numbers show up in the theory of automorphic forms as Fourier coefficients of a mock modular form of weight 3/2, which is essentially due to the classical fact that they are special values of certain natural L-series. In this talk we recall first of all the classical theory, and then we show how it can be smoothly generalized to a arbitrary totally real number fields.
